The light of day fades
Shades of purple streak the sky
In fleeting twilight, the world slows to a crawl.
Rays of blessed white light
Emanate from the dreamlike pearl hovering above
Its glow hypnotizing the masses.
Slowly everything is wrapped
In a blanket of diamonds
Its reach beyond reasoning.
No sound heard for miles
Just endless swirls of black and blue
Dotted with nature’s beauty.
Atop a hill
A lone shadow sits
Body slouched, head aimed towards the sky.
Eyes of amber glow within the darkness
Scanning the heavens
For a glimmer of hope.
Waiting patiently,
Orbs of honey remain glued to the woven quilt of night
Never blinking, but never still.
Motionless in its search
Golden pools of flame flicker recklessly
Silently willing one to fall
Cocky spheres of light
Twinkle in unison
Laughing at its presence
A flicker in the corner of the sky
Taunts the shadow
Testing its mettle
A wayward sparkle
Catches its eye
The shadows shift as it rises.
At attention the figure cranes its head upwards
Its gaze locked on the rogue jewel
Streaking through the spiraling void.
The trail stretches over the horizon
All is silent
The mass of darkness remain focused on its target
Hours pass like minutes
Daylight breaks the dark dome
The shadow is no more; a worn trail is all that remains
Until tonight anyway.
